We have two exciting sessions planned - Fall and Spring - with lots of great classes to choose from in each one. Whether you are looking for sports, drama, arts and crafts, technology, science or hobbies, there's something here for everyone. HAYMARKET FALL 2019 CLASS DESCRIPTIONS & CLASS PRICES
Exploration in Clay, Rop - $140
Come enjoy the 3-D medium of clay! We will create projects that teach the skills of various hand building techniques with clay. The projects will be taught in various stages of: creating and molding, smoothing and adding details to the surface, and finally glazing or final application of paint.
The Art of Science, Theal - $129
Kids will learn how art, science, and math go hand in hand. We do various art projects, introduce famous artists, and do fun science experiments that kids really enjoy. Some examples are Ansel Adams' photography, Dale Chihuly's glass blowing, Georgia Okeefe's painting, string art, making clay volcanoes (erupting them with vinegar and baking soda), and even some slime making.
Crossfit Cubs, Pennel - $142
Mission: Building bodies and character in youth. Vision: A safe place where kids can go to develop confidence, be in community with each other, and get healthier through fitness. Strategy: During each class they’ll learn the functional movements of CrossFit while encouraging and cheering for one another through challenging workouts. Please note that Enrichment Matters is not able to provide all of the information needed for an FSA reimbursement receipt for this class.
Krafty Kids, McBarron - $108
Age appropriate arts and crafts projects using mixed materials and media, including fabrics, paints, household finds, and nature materials. Many projects will reflect the Fall season and holidays. Most weeks will produce more than one project. A few examples of projects include: several snowman crafts, fabric painting, a scarecrow, collage, and decoupage.
Running Club, Teufel - $108
Join Ms. Teufel and Ms. Pregnall as they help students develop a love for running and learn proper stretching techniques.
Little Medical School - Doctor! Doctor!, Little Medical School of Northern VA - $162
In this course students will learn about, and use, tools that real doctors use, understand how the heart, lungs, and the process of digestion work through discussion and role playing, and be able to identify the organs of the body as well as learning how to suture, tie surgical knots, and role-play surgery. In the 7 week course students will learn the
names of the major bones and what they are made of and make a model of a bone. The 8-week course also covers the parts of the eye and how it works.
Students go home with a real stethoscope, disposable lab coat, physical exam form, heart worksheet, Human Body worksheet/sticker set, balloon, gloves, mask, sutures, diploma.
STEAM Club, Qureshi - $129
Students will be engaged in hands-on activities that focus on and integrate concepts across science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM). We will learn how science works, how to build something as an engineer, as well as the technology aspect. Students love creating their own projects and learning something new every class!
Tennis, USTA Mid-Atlantic - PWC - $162
The United States Tennis Association Mid-Atlantic Section (USTA MAS) proudly presents TGA Premier Youth Tennis, the first and only national tennis enrichment program in the country. Students will develop tennis skills utilizing kid-friendly equipment in a play-to-learn style that gets them rallying and having fun right away. In addition, students will learn relevant character development and STEM skills such as sportsmanship, respect, math, science, technology, and more. Elementary school programs include a five-level progression system. All first time students receive a wristband, a hat, and a student handbook. Program is taught by USTA-trained and background-screened coaches utilizing the most current teaching methodology. All tennis equipment is provided (e.g. racquets, balls, pop up nets).
Math 24, Hudspeth - $129
Math Challenge 24 is a competitive card game, which has students focusing on patterns, math facts and functions to create equations and solutions in their heads. The competition is fast-paced, fun and challenges high-achieving math students to extend their mental math abilities. Prince William County Schools hosts an annual Challenge 24 Competition in April, in which Haymarket looks forward to sending student representatives.
Cheer, Cheers To You - $104
Cheers to You is a fun recreational cheerleading class. We learn basic cheerleading arm motions, jumps, and dance routines set to music. Class fee includes Cheer T-shirt, matching hair bow, & award show! Our goal is to get active, include all students, and have school team spirit!
Game Design: Mazes and Monsters, Silver Knights Enrichment - $213
Design your own video games in the Game Design: Mazes and Monsters unit. Using Scratch 3 digital tools, create your own maze games, platformers, and side scrollers. Use the Silver Knights curriculum to learn how to code and then add more excitement to your games with amazing graphics, sounds, game add-ons like leveling up, gravity variables, and scores! Level up!
Slime Club, Theal - $129
They are making different kids of slime. They are learning the science about how to condense and change things. Kids love making slime and playing with it!
Archery, Eliassen - $103
Students will be learning archery skills and techniques.
Chess, Silver Knights Enrichment - $141
Learn chess from a Silver Knights chess coach! State and national champions have come from our programs, but most of our students are just looking to have fun! Class time is split between lesson and play. Lessons range from learning the rules to advanced tournament strategies, depending on the student's skill level. Play time is structured to pair each student against an opponent of similar skill. All grades and skill levels are welcome. Silver Knights will supply all the equipment during chess club. Students will have the opportunity to play in tournaments.
Cursive, Harris - $124
In our Cursive Writing Club we will learn how more and more research is proving that when we do both printing of letters and writing in cursive we are activating various parts of our brains. Other benefits of learning cursive: First, cursive writing can play an important part in helping with the development of children's fine motor skills; Second, when we write in longhand we we tend to retain greater amounts of information which can lead to more ideas.
Intro to STEM using LEGO® Materials, Play-Well TEKnologies - $170
Tap into your imagination with tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Build engineer-designed projects such as: Boats, Snowmobiles, Catapults, and Merry-Go-Rounds. Design and build as never before, and explore your craziest ideas in a supportive environment. Then use special pieces to create your own unique design! New and returning students can explore the endless creative possibilities of the LEGO® building system with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor. There are no prerequisites for this course and each season's session will feature unique projects, STEM concepts, and new adventures!
