The Ashland PTO is excited to offer an after school enrichment program for its students! We have two exciting sessions planned - Fall and Spring - with lots of great classes to choose from in each one. On this site you'll find all the information about program procedures, class descriptions and details you need to participate. Whether you are looking for sports, drama, arts and crafts, technology, science or hobbies, there's something here for everyone. Transition from school to enrichment programs:

For morning classes, parents will escort students to their class location the first week. After that, students will arrive on their own. For afternoon classes, students will proceed directly to their enrichment classes at dismissal time.

ASHLAND SPRING 2020 CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Running Club, Ashland PTO

Learn to build strength, endurance and the love of running with fun games that focus on helping speed and agility, skills and drills that fuel efficient running. Off Campus Run TBD. Taught by Coach Janie Langford.  ATTN: This is a 4 week class that meets twice a week.

America the Beautiful (3rd - 5th), ABRAKADOODLE - PWC

The United States of America is a big country made up of fifty different states! From the coasts of Florida to the mountains of Colorado, each state has its own unique traits. Make art inspired by Midwest landscapes, California redwoods, Washington, DC monuments and more! Learn how artists like Helen Chellin and Lee Kelly are inspired by their home states. Begin your journey across America by exploring the United States!

Game Deign: Arcade Action! - Silver Knights Enrichment

Design your own arcade-style games in this fun club. Using Scratch 3 digital tools, create your own racing games, chase games and classic arcade games like pong, tank, and snake! Use the Silver Knights curriculum to learn how to code and then take your game to the next level with avatars, scores, health points, intros and outros! Game on! 

Jump Rope - All That & Jazz

Students will have so much fun learning jump rope and double dutch skills from the Hop! Skip! Jump! competition and performance jump rope team. The students will be so excited when they realize that they are able successfully jump double dutch after only one session! Our instructors are experienced USA Jump Rope Regional and National champions.

Science Wizards - The Science Place

Science can be quite magical! Use chemistry to make potions that change color and orbs that glow in the dark. Stand inside a giant bubble and learn the physics that make it possible. Use the powers of electricity and magnetism to make objects levitate. Capture a rainbow in a test tube and take it home!

As members of The Science Place research team, students receive junior scientist wristbands. When they successfully complete their science mission each week, they earn an insignia to add to their wristband. By the end of their session, they have a visual record of the science knowledge that they've gained on their expedition.

Beginner Ensemble (Piano, Guitar, Violin, Drum) - Learn Now Music

Students will participate in an beginner ensemble music group. Students may choose which instrument to play during the session – piano, guitar, violin or drums. Students will learn about the instrument, how to read musical notation as well as how to participate in a group. Students are provided with FREE instrument rentals to TAKE HOME with them for the entire session! Parents will be invited to a “Parent Day” on the last day of class. Rental Instruments must be returned at the last class.

Cooking, iCook After School

iCook is a really fun, hands-on after-school cooking program for children. Our mission is simple: to help teach children to love everything about food – cooking, eating delicious and healthful dishes, learning about different cultures and stories behind the food. Our chefs-in-training will learn how to make a variety of healthy, delicious and fun seasonal recipes. We will learn about herbs, spices and how they add flavor and aroma to the dishes. Our little chefs will “travel” to new countries and learn about their cuisines and cultures. We will master cooking safety, slicing, dicing, chopping, folding, baking, zesting, mixing and more.

Tae Kwon Do - Prestige Sport Martial Arts - 6 Weeks

We offer a life journey of leadership, intensive training, and improving your mind, body, and spirit. Our goal is to improve each student's school grades as well as home behavior through fun and challenging Taekwondo exercises. Great workouts, martial arts training and lots of smiles!

USTA YOUTH TENNIS (3rd - 5th), USTA Mid-Atlantic - PWC

The United States Tennis Association Mid-Atlantic Section (USTA MAS) proudly presents TGA Premier Youth Tennis, the first and only national tennis enrichment program in the country. Students will develop tennis skills utilizing kid-friendly equipment in a play-to-learn style that gets them rallying and having fun right away. In addition, students will learn relevant character development and STEM skills such as sportsmanship, respect, math, science, technology, and more. Elementary school programs include a five-level progression system. All first time students receive a wristband, a hat, and a student handbook. Program is taught by USTA-trained and background-screened coaches utilizing the most current teaching methodology. All tennis equipment is provided (e.g. racquets, balls, pop up nets).

3D Printing - STEM exCEL

3D Printing is a premiere class that not only teaches students how to create 3D models from an artistic standpoint, but also teaches them from an engineering standpoint. Because the models will be printed, our instructors teach students what to consider in the construction of the model to produce the best-quality print. Students will observe a 3D Printer during each lesson to learn proper 3D printing standards and processes, all while creating their own models that will be printed for them. The course ends with students taking home their own accounts so they may continue modeling at home, along with at least 4 model prints they designed themselves during their time with us.
