The Cedar Lane PTA is excited to offer an after school enrichment program for its students! We have two exciting sessions planned - Fall and Winter - with lots of great classes to choose from in each one. On this site you'll find all the information about program procedures, class descriptions and details you need to participate. Whether you are looking for sports, drama, arts and crafts, technology, science or hobbies, there's something here for everyone. Transition from school to enrichment programs:
Students in grades 2nd-5th, including those who participate in CASA and YMCA, are dismissed directly to their EM class locations at dismissal. Kindergarten and 1st grade students may be escorted by classroom teachers.
Dismissal from enrichment programs:
Students should be picked up promptly at 3:45 pm. Instructors will then escort those students who participate in CASA and the YMCA program to their location.

CEDAR LANE WINTER 2020 CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Calligraphy - Mrs. Zeller
Learn the basics of calligraphy (fancy writing!) and create a number of fun and practical projects using several lettering hands. All materials included.
Basic Urdu Language - Urdu Academy of Maryland
This class will cover reading, writing and speaking in Urdu for kids who are in grades 2-5 . Offered by a native speaking professional teacher. Material will be provided.
¡Bienvenidos a Español!, Ms. Almuhaya
Come and learn the basics of the Spanish language and the many fascinating cultures where Spanish is spoken. You will learn and practice the most common Spanish phrases and vocabulary through songs, music, art, and other fun activities. Already know some Spanish? No problem! All levels are welcome. There is always something new to be learned!
Fairytale Fun with Language Arts and STEAM, Ms. Godard & Mr. Sukumar
Hear ye, Hear ye, calling all magical scholars who enjoy story time and creating. Each week we will focus on a different fairytale and accompanying language arts and STEAM activities.
Filmmaking - Fairfax Collegiate
Students learn to plan, write, shoot, edit, and complete post-production on a digital video short film. Students learn about the basics of film, shot composition, scripting, storyboarding, and the pre-production phase of filmmaking. Students then move on to act out scripts and shoot the film using boom mics, and professional Panasonic DVX- 100 digital video cameras. Students edit their film using iMovie, add music and credits, complete postproduction, and export the film to a private Vimeo account for home viewing.
Junior Master Chefs, Mr. Feist
Learn to cook like a Master Chef, making delicious meals using fresh ingredients. We will create recipes from scratch, including Breakfast Cookery, Pancakes, Egg Casseroles, Fresh Pizza Dough, Soups, Salads, and fun decorated foods, like Banana Caterpillars, Dried Fruit Leather, and Apple-of-My-Eye Crisp. Students will learn knife skills, including how to chop, dice, and mince fresh herbs and vegetables. This is a great way to expand their palettes and try new flavors. Fee includes personal apron, chef's hat and recipes.
Pottery - Mudskippers
Let Mudskippers Pottery bring the mud to your school! We are a family run professional studio that specializes in PTA sponsored after school ceramics education. Our instructors will expand students' knowledge and creativity. Each project is grounded in an historical artwork, submersing students in history and culture. Students will hone their fine motor skills through hand building and glazing pottery while expressing their unique personal vision. The 3D medium will teach them to use problem solving skills to address form and structure. Mudskippers Pottery will bring their convenient mobile studio to your school with all the advantages of a professional studio.
Singing Lions, Ms. Gines
Become "The Voice" of Cedar Lane by joining this dynamic group of performers. In this course, scholars will to learn how to put on a professional-grade show of singing and movement, with outside opportunities to perform at the Staff Basketball Game, 5th grade promotion and more! Fee includes T-shirt for new members.
WeDo Robotics Club - Fairfax Collegiate
WeDo Robotics introduces young students to simple robotics systems in a fun and engaging way. Students will build LEGO models with functional motors and sensors, and learn how to control them with basic programming skills. Basic engineering concepts will be explored and a new robot model will be built and explored each class period. Returning students looking for additional WeDo robotics challenges will use an expanded construction set to build more complex mechanisms and robots, and use their innovation and critical thinking skills to engineer their own creative solutions to exciting challenges.
