The Glenkirk PTO is excited to offer an after school enrichment program for its students! We have two exciting sessions planned - Fall and Spring - with lots of great classes to choose from in each one. On this site you'll find all the information about program procedures, class descriptions and details you need to participate. Whether you are looking for sports, drama, arts and crafts, technology, science or hobbies, there's something here for everyone. Transition from school to enrichment programs:

Children 2nd-5th will be dismissed to their assigned room, unescorted. The Parent Volunteer will pick up all the kindergarten and 1st graders, as well as ASE students, from Extended Day and escort them to their class location. Quick attendance for all bus students is appreciated in order to catch club students before the buses depart the school.



Chess Club - Silver Knights Enrichment

Learn chess from a Silver Knights chess coach! State and national champions have come from our programs, but most of our students are just looking to have fun! Class time is split between lesson and play. Lessons range from learning the rules to advanced tournament strategies, depending on the student's skill level. Play time is structured to pair each student against an opponent of similar skill. All grades and skill levels are welcome. Silver Knights will supply all the equipment during chess club. Students will have the opportunity to play in tournaments.

Adventures in Lego's, Beyblades & Snap Circuits - Ms. Caron (Tuesdays OR Thursdays)

Come join us in a relaxed environment to be creative by building with Lego's, compete using Beyblades(spinning tops), or learn about electronics with Snap Circuits. All 3 activities will be available each class so that kids can choose what they would like to do or try something new. This is also a great opportunity to interact with friends or meet new ones. Each student will receive a Beyblade spinning top and a Lego minifigure to take home.

Martial Arts - Kwon's Champion School

Kwon's Champion Martial Arts School is the longest running martial arts school in Gainesville, VA. They are well known not only for teaching great martial arts but also teaching students to gain better focus, discipline, respect for others, and learning how to listen better to their parents and teachers. Kwon's Champion School has been the leader in teaching and formulating great character development. In this exciting beginners' level program, students will learn the best techniques from Tae Kwon Do, Kickboxing, Karate, Hapkido, Kung Fu, Judo, and Jiu Jitsu. Students are bound to have a great time but most importantly, they will learn a great amount of discipline.

Pottery Class - Mudskippers Pottery

Let Mudskippers Pottery bring the mud to your school! We are a family run professional studio that specializes in PTA sponsored after school ceramics education. Our instructors will expand students' knowledge and creativity. Each project is grounded in an historical artwork, submersing students in history and culture. Students will hone their fine motor skills through hand building and glazing pottery while expressing their unique personal vision. The 3D medium will teach them to use problem solving skills to address form and structure. Mudskippers Pottery will bring their convenient mobile studio to your school with all the advantages of a professional studio.

Color Creativity and Directed Drawing - Ms. Kubancik

Want your child to discover new ways to boost creativity and relieve stress while having fun? Coloring and directed drawing are the answer. In fact, elaborate coloring books help with mindfulness and stress relief as well as general creativity enhancement. Half of the session students will follow along step by step with Mrs. K to create some of their favorite lovable characters from children’s Literature such as from Mo Williams, David Shannon, Walt Disney, Dr. Seuss, and others. The other half of the session will be about creative color and shading with complex coloring books. The physical act of coloring (with crayons, pencils, gel pens and/or markers) generates mind-focus and brain-balance while also enhancing creativity. First graders through Fifth graders will find enjoyment in this.

Little Dental School- Little Medical School of Northern VA

This course will give the students a general overview of the profession of dentistry. Students will become familiar with the basic dental tools, learn the major parts of the mouth and tooth, understand the growing child’s mouth, the dental prevention visit, and oral hygiene routines, learn about and practice some common dental procedures, understand cavity repair and role play preparing and filling a cavity, steps to becoming a dentist, dental careers, and dentist responsibilities. Students go home with a disposable lab coat, worksheets, teeth and mouth model, floss, toothbrush cover, cavity filled tooth model, tooth shaped cookie cutter, diploma.

Learning American Sign Language - Ms. Khazmo & Ms. Land 

Students will learn basic functional communication sign language, to include, yet not limited to: greetings, colors numbers, names of common nouns and verbs to make sentences, and the alphabet.

Student outcomes:

Student will be able to use basic sign language to communicate to a peer a simple conversation (over 3 turns).

Student will have created a companion note book as a reference of signs learned.
