SPRING 2020 CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Drawing - Young Rembrandts (K-5)
It's Springtime and that can mean only one thing: SPRINGTIME DRAWING WITH YOUNG REMBRANDTS! If your children are baseball fans, they will love our baseball still life lesson. Learning about warm colors and cool colors will be the focus as our artists draw a detailed exterior of a house. Students will explore the intricate details of the breathtaking Taj Mahal. Finally, we’ll take an imaginary trip to some beautiful places to draw a cute flamingo as well as learn about the history and artistry of a kimono. Sign up for classes today!
Spanish - International School of Languages (K-5)
ISL provides a well-rounded Spanish program for those children in grades K-5 that are either starting to learn Spanish or would like to continue adding to their knowledge of Spanish. Apart from the language, children will learn some culture, and traditions where Spanish is spoken. During this program, students will be introduced to greetings and presentations, the alphabet, the family, the school, numbers, colors, shapes, sizes, animals, parts of the body and senses, professions, places in the city and many more! Topics rotate each session; therefore, students who register for later sessions will learn something different each time. Each student will receive handouts that they will be able to use in class and more! Class sizes are small and taught by native speakers who are experienced teachers of the language and culture, engaging, fun and motivating. Students’ diverse learning modalities are addressed through the following: Conversation, Music, Flashcards, Games, Videos, Art, and Storybooks. Instructors use every moment as an opportunity to motivate students to use and practice their speaking skills. During each program we introduce a series of games and activities that develop the skills needed to learn a second language in a consistent and sequential manner. After every class, parents receive an email from their teacher that includes what was done in class and if there is any homework for the week. This email also includes any ideas to use at home with your child in order to solidify what they are learning in class.
Lego Robotics: AquaBots - Silver Knights Enrichment (K-5)
Silver Knights Robotics uses LEGO® WeDo 2.0 in our enrichment classes. Each session includes different projects so material doesn’t repeat. While they don’t actually go in the water (those pesky electronics!), these bots are inspired by what you will find in or on our oceans, rivers, and beaches. Build a dune buggy, a floodgate, a dolphin and more! Create your own sea monster with waving tentacles on the last day!
FUNdamentals of Acting - Imagination Stage (2-5)
In FUNdamentals of Acting, students focus on creating sustainable and believable characters and truthful actions for the stage. Students participate in a variety of fun exercises, which work on physical control, human behavior observations, and realistic actions and reactions. Through games and activities, students build a strong and caring ensemble with their fellow classmates in order to promote an environment of trust where they can effectively explore, make big choices, and take risks with characters! The end of the semester culminates in short scenes which allow them to apply the skills they have been learning throughout the semester. Parents are invited to observe the last 30 minutes of the last class for an informal sharing where students share what they have learned in class.
Chess Club - Silver Knights Enrichment (K-5)
Learn chess from a Silver Knights chess coach! State and national champions have come from our programs, but most of our students are just looking to have fun!
